Who I is the villain in Julius Caesar?

MI think that Mark Anthony is the real villain of the play, Julius Caesar. The reason why Anthony lives in the end is because this script doesn’t have a happy ending and therefore means that the villain, in this case Anthony wins in the end. In order to prove that Anthony is the villain of the play I need to address who I think the hero of the play is. In my opinion Marcus Brutus is the hero of the play. My first evidence is that Brutus died for the people of Rome.

Act 4 Scene 2

Brutus and his friend Lucilius meet Pindarus, servant and friend to Cassius, with Titinius, another mutual buddy.

They discuss tha fact that Cassius has been involved in some shady business, which can jeopardise their relationship.

Act 4 Scene 1 Summary

Anthony, Octavia and Lepidus gatherer together with a checklist of a number of men who supported the Conspirators. They plan to kill these men. Lepidus agrees that his brother can be killed as long as Anthony’s nephew is also killed.

As soon as Lepidus leaves Anthony talks trash behind his back calling weak and saying that the only reason why he listens to Lepidus was because he is more experienced than Octavius.

However Octavius disagrees he thinks that Lepidus is avoid soldier. Anthony says that his horse is also a good solider, good at being controlled and told what to do.

They then talk tactics on how to beat Brutus’ and Cassius’ increasing army.

 

 

Task 3 Figurative Language


Shakespeare shows Anthony’s reaction to Caesar’s death by making him react friendly in front of the very men who just murdered his King. Examples of this is when he shakes every conspirators bloody hands and calls them brave as well as gentlemen, when in fact he is being sarcastic. This can be backed up with evidence such as when Anthony is finally all by himself and his soliloquy is about his revenge. Also during his soliloquy he calls the conspirators “butchers” this means that he is not satisfied with the conspirators reasons’ for assassinating Caesar.

Another use of figurative language is used when Anthony says “Domestic fury and fierce civil strife shall cumber all the parts of Italy” Shakespeare uses personification to describe Anthony’s anger at Italy for potentially not giving any punishment to the “butchers” Anthony is so shocked by Caesar’s dead corpse that he can’t get over the fact that this “God” and this “almighty fierce person” is lying down in front of him.

Task 2

Cassius:

Rome had lost its ability to pick strong and courageous men,

Since when has Rome since the beginning of time ever have just one man protecting it?

But only one man being recognise in the whole country

Now on Rome there’s hardly any room for everyone and only this one man

You and me both have heard the stories of Brutus who would have killed the devil (or fought him) to keep the city of Rome safe and sound. Let alone saving it from a King.

Brutus:

I know you love me I have no doubts

i also lately have been thinking about this for some time.

I want nothing more but the best for Rome and its people

There’s another time to talk about this subject, however my good friend listen to this.

I’d rather be a peasant villi far then proudly call myself a citizen of Rome under this King and situation which we are going through.

Task 1

In act 1 scene 2 Cassius tries to manipulate Brutus into joining his side and to become enemies with Ceasar. Cassius knowing full well Brutus’ high status in Rome and how close he is to Ceasar tells him a story of how he once saved Caesar from a river when he almost drowned and saw him quiver and cry saying “Alas,” it cried, “give me some drink, Titinius,”
As a sick girl. Ye gods, it doth amaze me” he calls compares Caesar’s cries when he was sick to a small girl. Furthermore he want to persuade Brutus that  him and Brutus are no different than Caesar. And asks him questions such as: “Brutus and Caesar—what should be in that “Caesar”?
Why should that name be sounded more than yours?” He wants Brutus to realise that it can be possible to do something about Caesar and want to build courage and determination in Brutus. “Sound them, it doth become the mouth as well.
Weigh them, it is as heavy. Conjure with ’em.” He goes further in comparing Brutus’ name and Caesar.

Caesar Act 1 Scene 3 Summary

in the opening of the scene we start with Casca and Cicero they talk about how awful the weather is. Casca tells Cicero that the gods must be fighting. Enters Cassius, Casca is confused as to why Cassius doesn’t fear the thunder and lightning above him. Cassius replies to Casca telling him that the gods must be angry due to unnatural circumstances, possible recent ones. He compares Ceasar to the current state of the weather and says that Caesar is the reason behind the gods fighting. Casca predicts that Ceasar is bound to be crowned King by tommorow. “Those that with haste will make a mighty fire
Begin it with weak straws.” Cassius Tells Casca that people who want to start a massive fire quickly stars with small twigs purposefully talking about Caesar. Cassius then gives Cinna a piece of paper which he tells him to put on Brutus’ judge chair and gives him another one with wax which he wants to be stuck on Brutus’ statue. Cassius’ plan is to have Brutus on his side by daylight.

Wide Reading Project

During the year you will be asked to read a wide range of texts. Using texts studied in class as well as texts you have selected you will also complete a log of the reading process. Overall you will read eight texts including at least six written texts and two visual texts. You will complete log entries on each text and present a report on your findings.

Attached is the outline of your required personal reading project – inside is the guidance you need to make sure your own-choice reading is going to meet the wide reading criteria.

You can always ask your teacher for advice about which texts would be best to concentrate on – and once you’ve read each text, you’ll then be asked to write a journal entry on your blog explaining how it helped develop your understanding of The Individual and Society.

This year everyone in the school will be required to have a ‘book at hand’ – and for English students, it makes a good idea to make that book one that helps you towards this reading project.
